The novel belongs to a series starring the married couple Alvirah and Willy. In a catholic community of New York at the end of the 20th century, the different characters during Advent are preparing for Christmas through works of charity, apostolic works, and a series of activities which are presented with great naturalness in the depiction of the characters. The work includes different parallel histories: a petty thief without scruples who robs a chalice from an altar, a student who abandons her newborn daughter on the doorstep of a church, a charitable institution looking for a venue for its activities, and - obviously- the couple Alvirah and Willy.
