The plot of this thriller unfolds in the world of fashion in New York. It is a rather frivolous environment. It begins with the murder of Ethel Lambston, a famous writer of society news. The protagonist is Neeve Kearny, owner of a luxurious boutique on Madison Avenue and daughter of a former New York City police chief.

The style is pleasant, simple, entertaining, and easy to read. The plot is excellent and surprising; it keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, unable to put the book down... from beginning to end. It contains a lot of intrigue and not too much action. The ending is as convincing as it is unexpected. The main characters are very well developed, in such a way that the reader empathizes with them.

It was adapted into a film, like several novels by the Queen of Suspense.
