A typical Mary Higgins Clark suspense drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. The first edition was written in 1993. The story is centred on IVF clinics in the USA, and without giving anything away, it deals with the suffering of couples who can’t conceive naturally, and the joy of the few who have live births. Brief mention is made of the low success rate and the money-generating business that it is. The many ethical dilemmas this procedure brings in its wake are brought up; some are dealt with through the conversations of the protagonists, but others are brushed over rather superficially. The overall impression is that the end justifies the means, however unethical it may be.

One character views porn regularly and stalks women, but nothing graphic is described.
