Apostolic Exhortation "The Word of the Lord".
The main themes are: The centrality of the Word of God, Sacred Scripture as spiritual nourishment, the relationship between Scripture and Tradition, the role of the Church in the interpretation of Scripture, the importance of the liturgy, the missionary impulse of the Word, and the study and meditation of Scripture.
«The XII Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which was held in the Vatican from 5 to 26 October 2008, had as its theme The Word of God in the life and mission of the Church. It was a profound experience of encounter with Christ, the Word of the Father, who is present where two or three are gathered in his name (cf. Mt 18:20). With this Exhortation, I am pleased to fulfil the Fathers' request to make known to all the People of God the richness that emerged from the Vatican meeting and the proposed guidelines, as the fruit of common work (Benedict XVI).»
