It is the last novel written by Connelly and has a certain taste of farewell. It corresponds to n. 7 of the Michael Haller series and n. 25 of the Harry Bosch saga. The two form a formidable team on the road to justice. The thriller is set in the city of Los Angeles in our days. Lucinda writes a letter to Haller from prison asking for his help to prove her innocence: although she has been in jail for 5 years, she still says that she did not kill her husband. The peculiar lawyer who has no office and works in one of his big limousines Lincoln decides to take the case and asks for help to his stepbrother Bosch whom he has hired as an investigator. Both want to search for and defend the truth.
Unlike other thrillers by the author the atmosphere in which it unfolds is not sordid. It is very well written, with a narrative that captures the essence of the crime genre. From beginning to end it maintains suspense, is easy to read, has many thrilling moments, is a credible story that makes you think. Haller and Bosch want to find “the road to resurrection” which is full of dangers. It describes American court proceedings. Several of Connelly's iconic characters appear.
