La biografía de San Francisco escrita por Chesterton en 1923, poco después de su conversión al catolicismo, es deslumbrantemente fresca e inteligente. En primer lugar, Chesterton ve en San Francisco "un poeta cuya vida entera fue un poema". Es cierto que hay muchos libros sobre San Francisco de Asís, muchos de ellos más eruditos.
