The author was a famous novelist who gained enormous popularity with his work The Shadow of the Wind, which became one of the best-selling Spanish books in the world.

The novel we are discussing begins with a young boy —who escapes from school— entering an abandoned house, which turns out not to be abandoned, and the friendship of its inhabitants leads him to mysterious and incredible stories that may be entertaining to those who enjoy fantasy literature.

The novel is well-written, in a model and refined Spanish, very easy to read, and maintains interest until the end.
