This is the author's first novel. The story is set in early 19th century England. Seventeen-year-old Marianne Daventry, a rebellious and independent woman for her time, is upset by the recent loss of her mother in an accident. Her father leaves her in the care of her grandmother, and her twin sister leaves for London. She receives an invitation to Edenbrooke, an estate in Kent, from an old friend of her mother. On the way, she has an accident and meets Philip. The story of this relationship begins and matures into a deep friendship.

Entertaining, well written, with interesting dialogue that helps build an interesting plot and interesting characters. A good book for those who like romance books.
