The author founded "The Havard Virtuous Leadership Institute" (HVLI), which promotes the classic virtues as the basis of effective leadership. Through seminars to senior business executives or college students, it offers leadership training, executive development programs, consulting and mentoring. The author has developed this system in “Virtuous Leadership” (New York, 2007), his best known book, translated into 15 languages.
Throughout this work Havard insists on the importance of discovering one's talents, to form a virtuous leadership. This book is aimed at an audience with a leadership role. It seems to be the fruit of the lectures and seminars given by the author, because the text is pleasant and retains features of oral language. However, there is a need for a certain cultural basis - especially of European history and thought - and a little Christian formation, for it often uses terms and concepts of Christian doctrine, which a person without this prior knowledge might not understand.
