A novel set in England, just after the Second World War. The main character is Caroline Dering, a widowed woman with three children, who lives in Villa Vittoria. Almost at the same time two people arrive in the village: Mrs. Dering's sister, Harriet, a famous London actress; and Mr. Shapperton, a mysterious character.

The novel relates the different problems of Caroline, her children, her love affairs and adventures. An entertaining novel that helps to relax and learn a little more about the English countryside in the second half of the twentieth century.
