"Love Lies Bleeding" is a classic of the Golden Age of the English detective novel, full of literary references and car chases through the English countryside, with a perfect police plot. The Castrevenford school is immersed in preparations to celebrate the end of the year, and the eccentric Oxford professor and amateur detective Gervase Fen, released from his work duties, has been summoned to hand out prizes for the most brilliant speeches. However, the night before the big day, strange events happen at school, and two teachers are killed. While trying to unravel the mystery, Fen is forced to solve a kidnapping with the help of a hound with senile dementia, appease a plethora of crazed schoolgirls and, incidentally, find out the whereabouts of a lost Shakespeare manuscript that is lethal in extreme.
