The author tries to present, for the first time, a complete panorama of Latin American theology, from the first arrival of Spaniards in the New World until the beginning of the 18th century. The work studies the rich speculations of academic theologians along with the contents of catechesis and homiletics, the records of synods and the acts of the great South American Councils. It also analyzes sources that have been little considered until now: manuals for the eradication of idolatry, guidelines for the formation of the clergy, basic catechisms, etc. It also traces the religious content of esoteric movements that arose in the Spanish and Portuguese colonies in America. As a reference book, this would be especially useful for those carrying out research in the history of the Church and history of Theology, especially in Latin America. S.L. (2007)
