Huemer attempts to decipher what lies behind the progressive myths of our time. He divides them into personal, racial, feminist, gender, economic, and scientific myths, and concludes with a final analytical section, the most interesting part, where he seeks to understand and explain how these myths spread so successfully.
The book focuses on the United States, and although many of the topics discussed are familiar to us, they nevertheless differ from our perspective. He acknowledges that there are also conservative myths, but it is the “progressive” myths that are of interest due to the moral asymmetry of our society and the sense of superiority displayed by American progressives or liberals.
Myths are a system of ideological defense, a moral shield that protects them from any attack, since, due to social pressure, it becomes immoral and improper to question any progressive stance.
Huemer insists on the need to combat these myths with reliable public intellectuals who can serve as guides, and he places great importance on the dissemination of messages from American universities, which have previously selected their faculty on ideological grounds and discriminated ideologically against their students, above the influence of the media, social networks, and ideologically fanatical activists.
