This book is part of a series about Yael Azoulay, a female UN covert negotiator, the series being set in the period from 2009 to 2016. It is a fast-paced, action-packed, suspense thriller. Yael is employed by the fictitious UN Secretary-General to fix problems no one else can fix, involving cases of corruption, murder, betrayal, and power plays between big business, government agencies, foreign intelligence services, and heads of insurgencies in political hot spots around the world.
In this book, she deals with corruption within the UN itself, and powerful CEOs of companies trying to get a foothold in the UN for lucrative results.
Yael is smart, tough as nails, and a combat warrior. Her father is Israeli, and Yael learnt her combat skills while working as an Israeli intelligence operative. She has a gift for reading others' minds and proves very successful at negotiating, using whatever means necessary.
Moral evaluation: The ultimate aim is to ensure good is done throughout the world via the UN; however, Yael has to deal with people who are after money and power. She has a conscience and regrets the killings she has been involved in, most of which are in self-defence; they play on her mind afterwards, although she is less sorry for the elimination of the bad guys. She had a partner in the past, has had an affair, and has no problem with casual sex if she feels attracted to someone; however, she is looking for Mr Right and is keen to eventually settle down and start a family. There are no detailed sex scenes, but past encounters are mentioned briefly.
