This is the seventh novel featuring Amos Decker.
FBI agent Amos Decker, who possesses a prodigious memory, investigates the mysterious and brutal murder of a federal judge and her bodyguard at their home in an exclusive gated community in Florida.
Things are changing for Decker. He is in crisis following the suicide of a friend and a medical report on the possible progression of his brain condition. He must work with a new partner, Frederica White. Amos Decker is going to need all his special abilities to solve this case.
Judge Julia Cummins appears to have had no enemies, and there are no signs of forced entry on her property. Apparently, the neighbors in the community didn’t hear anything, and both her distraught ex-husband, Barry, and her teenage son, Tyler, have solid alibis. Decker must figure out why the judge felt the need for a bodyguard and what lies behind the strange card left by the killer.
As the investigation progresses, the number of victims grows, and Decker and White uncover a trail that leads them to a past presidential campaign and an unsolved crime involving those in the highest positions of power.
Greed, betrayal, and corruption at the heart of power—and someone who has decided it is time for revenge.
The author presents the work of the lead agents alongside their personal and family lives and concerns.
The language is clean, with no indecent descriptions, although some characters engage in immoral behavior. As a rare exception, one character believes in God, and that seems to influence his decisions.
