Une comédie, comme d'autres pièces de Molière. Elle raconte l'histoire d'un père et de ses deux enfants (un garçon et une fille). Le père est un homme très cupide et avare, ce qui fait souffrir ses enfants. Le protagoniste tombe amoureux de la petite amie de son fils, et c'est ainsi que commence un conflit dans lequel les défauts du père sont mis en évidence de manière comique, et comment un désir effréné pour les choses finit par se retourner contre une personne.
