This is a spoof autobiography of the daughter of a lady exiled to Virginia, USA, after being convicted of theft. It is subtitled 'The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous'. Daniel Defoe was born in London in 1660 and died in 1731. He was the son of a butcher and himself became a merchant which allowed him to travel far and wide. A dissenter, he joined the Monmouth rebellion of 1688, imprisoned and finally pardoned. This is a light-hearted book that had enormous influence on the establishment of the English novel.
