A beautiful biography of St Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint, written in the period leading up to her beatification in Sydney in January 1995 by St John Paul II.

It was written for the general public, who may have been unfamiliar with Catholic customs and the lives of nuns as they were in the late 1800s.

The issues with several bishops, and Mary’s famous excommunication, are dealt with in a tactful way, helping the reader to understand the context of the time in which the events happened, as well as Mary’s heroic obedience and forgiveness.

Mary’s life was truly inspiring, and she demonstrated tremendous love of God and others in very difficult circumstances. Her spiritual life can be glimpsed through the many quotations from her letters.
