Neil Blair agrees to the mission proposed by a film director, an old army friend, to hang around in a Dolomites ski resort and keep an eye out on what might be going on there. To the outside world he is there to write a script for a film. Yet he soon gets involved in the intrigues of criminals trying to seize hidden gold left by the Nazis. Much of the action takes place on the ski slopes as Blair tries to find out who is behind the operation. Ralph Hammond Innes was born in 1913 in Horsham, England, and died in 1998. He wrote over 30 novels as well as children's and travel books. This book of adventure was also published in the USA under the title 'Fire in the Snow'. An easy to read thriller, somewhat dated now. The story is not meant to be credible and sometimes the conversation can be unsavoury, though true to the character.
