Agent Michael Reynolds' mission is to persuade a top scientist who has defected to Russia to come back to the UK. The scientist is living in Budapest and this is a thriller culminating in a chase with the scientist in tow ending up on the roof of a Trans-Hungarian express train. Alastair Maclean was born in Scotland in 1922 and died in 1987. This is another fast-moving spy thriller, though not one of his finest. It is a little bogged down by too much political analysis and not enough action.
