Spiritual biography written by Grazia Ruotolo (the protagonist’s great-niece) in collaboration with journalist Luciano Regolo. Perhaps for this reason (or because of the translation), at times it can be somewhat heavy going. The book recounts the life, miracles, and difficult trials of faith of Don Dolindo Ruotolo (1882–1970), an Italian priest from Naples and a contemporary of Padre Pio, who is known worldwide for his Prayer of Abandonment.
Despite his many gifts (bilocation, stigmata, discernment of souls, and healing miracles), he lived under strict austerity and suffered from misunderstanding within the Church, being suspended from his priestly ministry for years by the Holy Office before being fully rehabilitated. Padre Pio himself would often send pilgrims from Naples back to their city, telling them: “Why do you come here when you have Dolindo?”
He died in 1970 with a reputation for holiness, and his cause for beatification is progressing well.
