Fantasy novel written for young adults. Sophie is the eldest of three sisters, who live in a magical kingdom, working in a family hattery; not knowing she has magical powers, she manufactures and puts magic on the hats she makes. One day she is bewitched by an evil witch, and is transformed into a 90 year old woman; she decides to flee and goes to the wizard Howl's floating castle. The story continues in a twirling way, in an ongoing struggle between the two wizards. At times it is difficult to understand the logic of the story, but it has endless imagination and adventure. This book is the first in Howl's triology, which includes Castle in the Air and House of many ways.
