An unprecedented collection of a wide range of contemporary poetry from Indigenous Australian authors in both English and First Nations languages. The poems deal with connection to country, place, land and family and explore loss and dispossession. There is a recurring sense of Aboriginal Dreamtime spirituality. The poetry allows readers to empathise with the loss experienced by First Nations peoples due to colonisation and hope for a better future. There are some poems that refer to the Stolen Generation and others are hostile to the Australian government, colonisers and sometimes Christianity, arising from their negative experiences. Overall, a very poignant collection that allows insight into the minds and hearts of First Nations people through unique means of expression.
