A short essay that addresses in a suggestive and tuned manner, the main contemporary moral issues involved in human communication: the importance of the word entrusted to freedom; the value of honour and fame as goods necessary for human dignity; the injury of honour and fame as injustices that damage the natural human tendency for self-esteem, feeling loved and being respected by others. The study also gives insights on the legal protection of these goods, on rash judgment, slander, ridicule, defamation, and gossip. It concludes with an eloquent chapter on the respect for personal dignity in the media. The frequent quotations from Sacred Scripture, Magisterium-particularly the Second Vatican Council- and Pope Francis, St. Thomas Aquinas and many contemporary authors, included in a timely way, enhance the text. A reading especially recommended for those who wish to hone in on the use of the word and language in personal coexistence and in their professional and family situations, as well as for professionals in the field of communication.
