Catechesi Tradendae (Catechesis in Our Time) is an apostolic exhortation written by Saint John Paul II and promulgated on October 16, 1979. In this document, the Pope reflects on the importance of catechesis in the life of the Church, addressing the contemporary context and the challenges of the modern world.

Issued just one year after the inauguration of his pontificate, the encyclical emerges in the post-conciliar context, following the Second Vatican Council, which promoted a new pastoral orientation for the Church. The Pope calls for profound reflection on catechesis, viewing it not only as an educational act, but as an inculturation of the faith in the heart of every believer.

One of the most important legacies of Catechesi Tradendae is the understanding that catechesis is an integral process that seeks an authentic encounter with Christ, not just religious instruction. Furthermore, the document reinforces the role of the catechist not only as a teacher but also as a witness to the faith, adding a spiritual dimension to their work.

The exhortation has had a profound impact on the renewal of catechetical programs and has reaffirmed catechesis as an essential part of evangelization, encouraging the Church to transmit the faith authentically and effectively in a world of constant cultural and spiritual change.
