The author narrates the relationship between the great German Romantic poet Novalis (Friedrich von Hardenberg) and the young Sophie. Set in Saxony, with a wide cast of well-developed characters, it insightfully and ironically portrays the contrasts between the everyday and the sublime through brief chapters, with shifts in time, until it forms a grand tableau full of humanity, told in a clear and engaging style.
