Luke Garner is an illegal third child. He has spent his entire life in hiding. Now, for the first time, Luke is living alongside other teenagers.

After the tragic events of the first book, Luke Garner assumes the false identity of Lee Grant, a wealthy boy who has died. Under this legal alias, Luke is sent to Hendricks School for Boys, a gloomy, claustrophobic boarding school with no windows, filled with cruel classmates and teachers who seem unaware of everything going on around them. Luke knows he must remain unnoticed, but he lives in constant fear that his behavior will betray him.

One day, Luke discovers a door leading to the outside world. It is then that his life takes the turn he has long dreamed of ever since he became friends with Jen, who gave her life defending the rights of third children.

Among the Impostors is the second novel in the acclaimed dystopian series Shadow Children, written by American author Margaret Peterson Haddix.

The story follows the life of Luke Garner, a twelve-year-old boy living under a totalitarian regime in which families are legally permitted to have only two children. It is the sequel to Among the Hidden, part of a series consisting of seven books in total.

Throughout her career, Margaret Peterson Haddix has received numerous awards and honors, including recognition from the American Library Association (ALA) and appearances on The New York Times bestseller lists. In addition to her commercial success, she has been praised for encouraging critical thinking and empathy among young readers.
