It tells the story of the unexpected encounter between two very different men who nevertheless share feelings of isolation and emotional wounds. One is Hiro, a young Japanese hikikomori who has lived confined to his room for years, cut off from the world out of fear, shame, or pain. The other is a middle-aged salaryman with a very structured lifestyle, a man older than Hiro who also carries internal burdens he has never managed to share, such as his recent dismissal from work, his dissatisfaction, and his inability to acknowledge certain truths before his family.

The premise is simple: Hiro overcomes his fear just enough to go outside one day and sit on a park bench, where he meets the other man. They begin to see each other there regularly; at first without many words, then sharing fragments of life, memories, guilt, silences, and hopes. It is a brief and sensitive story, with short or fragmented chapters, almost inner monologues from the characters that gradually reveal what makes them human: fears, loneliness, and the desire to be understood.

The author, who is Austrian, has a delicate and poetic voice. She stirs emotions without overwhelming. The book leans toward compassion, friendship, recognition of the other, and the healing power of both words and silence.
