A novel that describes the joys, sorrows, splendors and risks of the Christians of the early church. Junia, daughter of a Roman senator, had money, power, all human comforts and a future ahead of her. But when her best friend, Marcia, is martyred because of her Christian faith, Junia is attracted to the religion that had made Marcia so kind.

The book shows the greatness and dilemmas of the early Christians; it vividly illustrates that faith leads ordinary people to live in a Christian way, with courage; it shows that the appeal of the new religion was accompanied by social struggle, family divisions, and the risk of a death sentence for those who had the courage to embrace it. It's a testimony to the very strong faith of so many real saints and martyrs in the period it so vividly portrays.
