This is an entertaining adventure featuring Captain Riley, in which the capture of Belchite by the Republican forces during the Spanish Civil War is recounted. Alongside fictional characters, the story includes real figures such as Ernest Hemingway, who at the time had not yet begun his relationship with Martha Gellhorn, the journalist who would later become his wife, and André Marty, who serves as the political commissar of the International Brigades.

The narration is engaging and very amusing, describing how, just before the first bombing of the town, the international troops manage to evacuate several locals, even taking an entire convent of nuns out of the area.
