The book tells the story of a journey made by a young woman, Alice, from London to Istanbul, to discover the truth behind the words of a fortune-teller who told her that she had two lives. Alice leads a quiet life as a creator of perfumes. She has several friends, who like her are artists in their spare time, but when a fortune-teller declares that her roots are very far from London, she sets off in the company of a neighbour, Mr. Daldry, who has come into a legacy and is able to pay for both of them to travel. After some time in Istanbul Mr. Daldry returns to London and she remains behind, to try and discover as much as she can, while working in a restaurant and trying to create the ideal perfume. A light read, highlighting values such as solidarity and neighbourliness.
