Thomas Stearns Eliot was born in 1888 in the USA, moved to Oxford and stayed in England till his death in 1965. Eliot became a staunched Anglo-Catholic, though he separated from his mentally-ill wife in 1932. Ten years after she died, Elipt married again in 1957. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948 and was raised to the Order of Merit.
