This history of Australia, aiming at a general audience, is well written and gives a positive view of the incredible history of Australia. Abbott doesn’t shy away from the ugly and shameful events that occurred, but neither does he dwell on them. He emphasises what he believes are the makeup of modern Australia: ‘an indigenous heritage, a British foundation and an immigrant character’.

It is not an exhaustive history; some events are hurried over while others are not mentioned at all. The last section deals with more current political affairs, centred around when he was Prime Minister from Sept 2013 to September 2015, and the decade since then. Abbott being a liberal politician, the book has an obviously pro-liberal stance, but he does seem to give credit where it is due to some of our famous Labour leaders.
