Moral assessment:
The book combines the true story of the family of the author, who were sent by the Russian communist government to Siberia, with his deliberations as a psychotherapist. The story of life and survival in Siberia is fascinating; the reflections on this experiences are quite repetitive, and the overall effect of his musings is of being preached at which diminishes the otherwise helpfulness of his ideas on hope, gratitude, ecc. The underlying philosophy - while purportedly Christian - is rather vague and confused.
