This is the tragedy of the Moor of Venice. Desdemona, the daughter of senator Brabantio, has secretly married Othello. He asks to lead the attack on the Turks threatening Cyprus. A storm disperses the Turkish fleet and Othello and his group land in Cyprus: Desdemona, his lieutenant Cassio, and Iago, an old soldier bitter at not being chosen as lieutenant. Iago gets Roderigo to fight Cassio when he was drunk, and tells Othello that Cassio is his wife's lover.
William Shakespeare was born in 1564, lived in Stratford, and died in 1616. He married Anne Hathaway and had three children. He centred his works on the Globe Theatre from 1599. The tragedy was first performed in front of King James I at Whitehall.
