This collection of different articles is the result of a workshop on “The Role of Emotions in Cultural Analysis” led by CEMID, a research project on Emotional Culture and Identity, and hosted by the Institute for Culture and Society at the University of Navarre, Spain. The contributing authors are professors from diverse backgrounds. The general editor, Ana Marta González, is professor of ethics at the University of Navarre; the other authors have conducted research on emotions and culture in philosophy, sociology, linguistics, literature, film and television, medicine, and fashion theory.
Although some of the articles are simply a door to further study, the majority demonstrate the clear connection between human reason and human emotions. The emotions are part of our psychosomatic-spiritual makeup; they embody values and reflect who we are as persons and as a society. For example, if a person experiences an emotion towards something this already implies that he or she cares about that something.
